Don't socialists hate firearms?
Nope! Firearms are a tool against oppression and an equalizer. As socialists, we seek to level the playing field and empower the working class and other vulnerable communities. Socialism has a long history of helping the colonized, the disenfranchised, and the marginalized educate, arm, and defend themselves. UNYSRA proudly continues that tradition.
Is the SRA or UNYSRA a militia?
The Socialist Rifle Association (SRA), including the Upstate New York Socialist Rifle Association (UNYSRA), is explicitly NOT a militia. We are first and foremost an educational organization focused on community defense through education and advocacy. We know the struggle against fascism is multifaceted, and this is how we do our part in that struggle.
Who cannot be a member of the SRA?
- Law enforcement and military personnel.
- Anyone that holds state-given power to detain or arrest others.
- Fascists and bigots.
NRA vs SRA?
The NRA is a business, not a community or a movement. It holds a monopoly on firearms education and culture that revolves around white supremacy, nationalism, and fear. It funnels its training and legal backing strictly to nationalist white, cisgender, heterosexual males. Unlike the NRA, SRA membership is more than just a card. And, while we abide by all laws regarding firearms, we do not need an authority to say we have the right to bear arms.
